Haiku

Here are four haiku that I have written. I use the 5-7-5 syllable pattern.

Easter Island
Great stone faces look
Grimly out to the ocean
From their island home.

Basset Hound
The basset hound looks
Up at me with sad brown eyes
And smiles, wags her tail.

Autumn Prelude
Red, orange, yellow leaves
Scattered on the still green trees
Tell me that it's fall.

Prayer
With broken heart and
Contrite spirit I offer
My soul up to God.

Mary,

Very good. See, it isn't that difficult, you just have to do it.

Thanks, Pop. Well, maybe it was a little difficult to post my own writing. :D

I was studying about Haiku's yesterday as I was going to try to write one for a friend's Birthday who went to Japan in November and also served a mission there. I instead used one of the ancients. From my experiences, I have an even greater appreciation of your work. From what I learned, Haiku traditionally is a lot about changing of the seasons. I really saw different subject matters tackled as well. Good job! I better get to sleep.

Thanks, Barb! It's interesting to learn about haiku and Japenese poetry. And their art, too! I still have a lot of practicing to do, but will try to be braver about posting some of my writing occasionally.
