The Writing Show has a podcast called "Writing the Personal Essay" that you might enjoy. The guest is Sheila Bender and she talks about different aspects of writing personal essays.
While you are educating yourself on politics and economics with all the current crises, you might want to take the time to notice how the reporters and pundits structure their articles and essays and how they reference their sources. It will help you with your own writing.
